Coordinated Drone Detection

A whole-of-government approach to establishing and sharing drone detection data to improve safety and security outcomes.

Drones are an emerging technology that will unlock significant opportunities, while also presenting physical, cyber security and safety risks to government, private business and citizens.

These risks are increasing as rapid advances in off-the-shelf drone technologies reduce the resources and expertise needed to support sophisticated drone operations.

Coordinated Drone Detection

To address these risks, the Australian Government is leading coordinated drone detection efforts. 

Coordinated drone detection is being developed in consultation with Commonwealth, state, territory, and local government organisations, and industry stakeholders, including critical infrastructure sectors. This coordinated approach will help to:

  • Meet the needs of a wider range of users:
    • Establish processes to share data with a range of stakeholders.
    • Provide data to assist with regulatory enforcement related to safety, privacy, noise and other outcomes.
  • Support easier integration of drone management systems and future Uncrewed Traffic Management System.
  • Support broader whole-of-government drone policy outcomes.
