Cultural sites

The department is working with First Nations peoples, communities and organisations to manage concerns around drone use near cultural sites.

There are concerns around how drones are used near cultural sites. Drone flyers should carefully research the local regulations for drone use in the area where you intend to fly a drone before you do so, especially if you intend to operate in a special area, such as cultural sites or sites of significance.

Cultural sites

The First Nations Drone Policy Project considered issues relating to drones and cultural sites, including data sovereignty, protocols for drone use on Country and culturally responsive drone training, policies and regulations. 

The department worked with First Nations peoples, communities and organisations to explore the role drones can play in closing the gap targets, and to determine appropriate drone policies to support this.
