Drone delivery of goods is expected to grow in Australia, due to advances in technology and increasing demand.

To ensure operators and planning authorities integrate drone delivery safety and responsibly into the community, we sought the public’s feedback on the drone delivery guidelines in November 2022.

A total of 97 submissions were received and we have updated the drone delivery guidelines to address your concerns. The updated guidelines:

  • further explain the safety and noise regulation approvals processes
  • detail how we respond to noise complaints
  • clarify the purpose of the document, which is to provide guidance to planning authorities
  • outline the expectations for community consultation by local governments and commercial operators.

Further consultation with industry, local, state and territory governments will be undertaken before the guidelines are finalised and available on drones.gov.au in late 2023.
