The drone delivery guidelines, released today, will help operators understand their obligations and local governments consider how to best use drone services in their communities.

Drone delivery services can offer a range of benefits to communities including being a sustainable and cost-effective solution to transport goods to customers. Drone delivery trials have been operating in Australia since 2019, and are set to become more commonplace as technology and the industry continues to mature.

These new infrastructure planning guidelines for drone delivery services were developed through extensive public, industry and government consultation to ensure they are fit for purpose.

The guidelines will help drone operators understand their regulatory requirements and provide support for planning authorities when considering development proposals for drone delivery services. They complement a range of other policies and programs designed to address community concerns about drones and support the responsible development of the emerging aviation technology sector.
